Vinyl Restore — Digitize & Restore Your Records

Getting Started

How do I record and restore a record?

Open the app and tap "Record" to capture a side from a USB turntable, an audio interface, or the built-in mic — or import an audio file you already have. When the side is captured, tap "Restore." On-device cleaning removes clicks, crackle, pops, and hiss, and the result screen lets you A/B compare before you save or share.

How does the A/B compare slider work?

Drag the thumb across the waveform to switch between the original and the restored version. The waveform shows gray for the original and amber for restored. You can also press and hold the waveform to hear the original, or tap the swap control to toggle between the two without scrubbing.

What do De-click, De-crackle, and De-hiss do?

De-click removes sharp clicks and pops from scratches and dust. De-crackle targets the fine, continuous crackle of worn grooves. De-hiss gently reduces tape hiss and inter-groove surface noise. Each stage has its own strength so you can tune the cleanup to the record — the cleaning is transient-aware, so snares, cymbals, and plucked strings stay intact.

Recording & Hardware

What do I need to record my vinyl?

A USB turntable or an audio interface connected to your iPhone gives the cleanest capture, but you can also record through the built-in mic in a pinch. Connect your input, choose it on the Record screen, set your levels with the meters, and capture the side.

What is the software RIAA option?

Turntables without a built-in phono pre-amp output a "flat" signal that sounds thin and bright. If your turntable or interface has no pre-amp, enable the software RIAA option and Vinyl Restore applies the standard RIAA equalization curve so the recording sounds correct. Leave it off if your gear already has a phono stage.

Does it work on cassettes and reel-to-reel?

Yes. Record from your tape deck the same way you would a turntable, then choose the matching source type. The de-hiss stage is tuned for tape hiss, so cassettes and reels clean up nicely — save your degrading tapes before they fade.

What audio formats are supported?

You can import M4A, MP3, WAV, AIFF, and FLAC. Free exports are compressed; Premium adds lossless WAV and FLAC export. The App resamples to the working rate automatically.

Tracks & Library

How does auto track-split work?

Record a whole side and tap "Split into tracks." Vinyl Restore finds the silent gaps between songs and splits the side into individual tracks. You can drag any boundary to fine-tune it, rename tracks, and export them individually. Track-split export is a Premium feature.

The cleanup left some residual noise. Why?

Vinyl Restore is tuned for light-to-moderate surface noise. Deeply scratched, warped, or heavily worn records can leave audible artifacts. Try raising the De-click or De-crackle strength, and Premium subscribers can download the Studio model for deep crackle on old and worn records. No on-device tool can fully reconstruct content lost to physical damage.

Do I need an internet connection?

No. Recording and restoring run entirely on your device, even on a plane or with no signal. The only thing that needs a connection is the one-time download of the optional Premium Studio model — and even then, your audio never leaves the phone.

Free vs Premium

What's free vs Premium?

Free: Record and clean clips up to 90 seconds, 1 export per day, on-device de-click / de-crackle / de-hiss, and a library of your recent recordings, with banner and interstitial ads. Premium: Unlimited exports and full-length sides, the downloadable Studio model for worn records, lossless WAV / FLAC export, auto track-split export, batch processing for whole crates, and zero ads.

Is there a free trial?

Yes — the Premium Annual plan ($39.99/year) includes a 7-day free trial. You'll only be charged at the end of the trial. Cancel anytime in your Apple ID subscription settings before the trial ends.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open Settings inside the App and tap "Restore Purchases." This re-applies your active subscription if you've previously purchased one on this Apple ID.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Open the iOS Settings app, tap your name at the top, then tap Subscriptions. Find Vinyl Restore and tap Cancel Subscription. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.

Privacy

Where do my recordings go?

They stay on your iPhone. The App does not upload audio to any server. Recording and restoring run on-device. You can confirm by toggling Airplane Mode — everything still works. See the Privacy Policy for full details.

What permissions does the app need?

Microphone / audio input (only when you tap Record), Files / iCloud Drive (only for the audio file you pick to import), and Notifications (optional, for background-processing completion alerts).
